1. Qualification of Submission 

1.1 The correspondent should be the member, but non-members can be included in case of collaborative work. 


1.2 Manuscripts should have academic or practical value and must have not been published elsewhere. 


1.3 Papers submitted to the journal should be presented at KSBEC based upon the principle. However, un\-presented manuscripts can be published if its value is accepted. The copyright of manuscripts belongs to KSBEC. 


2. Paper format 

Article types can be original articles, research summaries, reviews, and so on. The paper should be written in Korean or English and should be presented in the following format. 


2.1 Korean manuscripts: Manuscripts can be written in Korean along with English and must not exceed 12 pages. Manuscripts should be presented in the following order (Leave two spaces between orders): 

(1) 제목, 저자명 , 소속명 (국문), (2)제목, 저자명 , 소속명 (영문), (3)Abstract, (4)Additional key words, (5)Corresponding author( 저자가 2인 이상일 경우 ), (6)서론, (7)재료 및 방법 , (8) 결과 및 고찰 (결과, 고찰로 나눌 수 있음 ), (9)적요, (10) 추가 주제어 , (11) 사사, (12) References 


2.2 English manuscripts: The number of pages is based upon the Korean manuscript. (1) the title of the paper, the full name of the author, and the institutional affiliation (in English), (2) Abstract (same with Korean), (3) Additional key words, (4) Corresponding author(s) (if there are more than two authors), (5) Introduction, (6) Materials and methods, (7) Results and Discussion (Can be separated into Results and Discussion), (8) Acknowledgements, (9) References, (10) the title of the paper, the full name of the author, and the institutional affiliation (in Korean), (11) Summary in Korean, (12) Additional key words (in Korean) 


2.3 Format of Title page 

2.3.1 Title: The title should be definite and using series of papers should be avoided if possible. If the title has a note, it should be written with an Arabic number at the upper part of the end (ex. 1)). In case of an English title, the first letter of each word should be written by a capital letter except prepositions and articles. The title that starts with, ‘A study on….’ or ‘Studies on…’ cannot be used in an English title. In addition, neither trade names nor bbreviations can be used. 

2.3.2 Name(s) of Author(s): If there are more than two authors, each author’s names should be separated with using the middle dot. (ex. 김○○*·박○○ ) The names in English can be written according to what the author(s) want to write. If the author(s) wants to, the last name can be written first with a comma before the first name. Also, the hyphen (-) can be used in the first name. The name of the corresponding author is indicated by the asterisk and is put as a footnote. 

2.3.3 Institutional affiliation: It must be clear and in detail about the institution. If the institutions are different, They should be separated by a number (ex. 김○○·박○○ 1). Department of Agricultural Engineering, Seoul National University, 1Department of Horticulture, Chonnam National University. 

2.3.4 Footnote: When you need to explain the part of the specific tables and figures, it can be used. 

2.3.5 Abstract: The purpose and the results of the research should be summarized within 300 words in English. It should all be composed as one paragraph, and it should not be numbered. 

2.3.6 Additional key words and sub-themes: The key words must be related to the article and should be around 5 words. It should be written in Korean and English. It should not be written in the title. Also, it should not include too broad or common words, such as quantity or growth, when you put the additional key words. In case of a scientific name, the name of the nomenclature should be excluded. The orders should be in Korean and English alphabetical order. 

2.3.7 Cover page: There should be the title, the author(s), the institutional affiliation(s), and the footnote(s) in the cover page. 


2.4 Manuscript format 

2.4.1 The numbers should not be used in the Introduction, the Materials and Methods, the Results and Discussion, the Abstract, and the References. These elements should be located in the center. Each of them should have 1 row of space before the preceding text. 

2.4.2 Introduction: The motivation and the purpose of research, the research history, and the research trend are briefly explained. The purpose of the research should be the last part. A lengthy description and a simple repetition should be avoided. 

2.4.3 Materials and Method: It is required to provide materials and the method in detail related to the figures and the tables. Use references when well-known methods are used. It is required to provide the scientific name of the plant materials. If necessary, the variety names can be presented. 

2.4.4 Results and Discussion: The results must be explained clearly and briefly using figures and tables. The quantitative changes are described by figures rather than tables. The discussion should be filled with the new and important information of the study and should be compared and analyzed to the known facts. If necessary, the results and the discussion can be separated into independent sections. 

2.4.5 Abstract in Korean: It is possible to write an additional abstract about the complex results in detail. However, the English abstract is used for the purpose. 

2.4.6 Acknowledgements: It can be used depending on the specific condition. 

2.4.7 References: Periodicals, reports, proceedings, books, dissertations, etc. Whether the references is written either in Korean or English, the references should be written in only English. If it is not an English paper citation, the written language of the cited paper should be mentioned (ex. (in Korean)). Only cited references in the paper should be listed. In case of a recitation, it is required to present both the original author and the author who made the citation. The order of the references should be alphabetical (ex. in Chinese references, follow the Chinese pronunciation). Each reference should be in the order of the author, year, title, publisher, volume, and the page number. In periodicals, the name of the well known journals can be written as an abbreviation. Otherwise, the abbreviation should not be used. If the several articles under the same author were cited, the order of the articles would be ordered by years (earlier years should be at first). If the articles have more than two co-authors at the same year, the order of the articles would follow the alphabetical order of the co-author. If the articles have the same year and the same authors, it should be written with the year and the following lower case alphabet in order (ex. 1997a, 1997b). Abbreviations should not be used for one-word names of the journal (ex. HortScience). It is possible to use the previous ways in this journal (KSBEC); Protected Horticulture and Plant Factory or Protected Hort. Plant Fac.

(4) Dissertations Reeder, J.D. 1981. Nitrogen transformation in revegetated coal soil. PhD Diss., Colorado State Univ., Fort Colllins. (Diss. Abstr. 81-26447) p. 23-40. 

(5) Proceedings In order of author, year, title, conference, month, place, title of journal, volume, and page number. 

(6) Non-periodic proceedings Follow other references but describe in detail to reveal sources of reference 

2.4.8 Tables and Figures: Use English in the tables and figures (ex. Table 1, Fig. 1) and place them in the appropriate position. The first letter of the title should be capitalized. Also, put the period at the end of the title. The same contents should not be duplicated in regards to the form of the table or figure. Footnotes can be used to explain the information of the tables and figures even without reading the materials or the method. Footnotes can be also used when the additional information is necessary to explain the table as the reverse of the superscript alphabetical orders. Figures include pictures, graphs, charts, and so on. All figures are required to have clear contrast in black and white. If there is a need to get color print, it is required to submit the color slides. The tables and figures should have 6 cm in width. If it is necessary to print the figures or tables with more than 6 cm in width, please submit the desired size and explain the reason at the bottom. 

2.4.9 Table and figure citation: Label them such as Table 1 and Fig. 1. 

2.4.10 Reference citation: Label the last name of the author and year. 


3. Submission guidelines 

3.1 HWP or MS words can be used. The manuscript should be submitted to the online submission system in the KSBEC homepage ( as the following: the one copy of the manuscript, the copyright agreement, and the author check list. The cover letter and the author check list can be downloaded in the KSBEC homepage. Manuscript format: A4 size: margin 25 mm, row spacing: 200 % (English manuscript, Double Space), font: sinmyoungjo, font size: 11, Column: 1.

3.3 Final submission: After the review, submit the edited manuscript to the online submission system. The row space should be 150% (English manuscript, Single Space) in the final manuscript submission. The other format should be identical. 


3.4 The printed revision is reviewed by the corresponding author one more time. However, while it is restricted to change and add on during the review, the change is allowed under the permission of the editorial committee before the review. 


3.5 Make a payment of 50,000 won for the review and 100,000 won for publication at the time of submission of the accepted manuscript. 3.6 If the final manuscript is more than 5 pages, the author has the responsibility to pay for the exceeding pages (10,000 won per page). However, the standard pages can be changed by the decision of the editorial committee. Also, the author should pay for the special color printing and the special designs. 


3.7 The number of the copy the author can get is 30. The author needs to pay in advance for extra copies. 


4. Research and publication ethics 

The author, editorial committee, and the reviewer must follow the research and publication ethics declared by the KSBEC polices and the international standards. The policies on the research and the publication ethics not stated in this instructions should follow International standards for editors and authors (\-and-authors). 


5. Manuscript review standards 

The submitted manuscript should be reviewed and judged by three professional reviewers. The manuscript must have value in the academic or the practical area. The value of the manuscript should be reviewed if the manuscript is keeping the purpose and the standards of the KSBEC: having an appropriate contents, logics, and interests. The reviewer should make a judgment under the review standards and issue a review opinion for the author and a review result. The review results have categories such as ‘Accepted without revision’, ‘Accepted with revision’, ‘Review after revision’, and ‘Not accepted’. The reviewer should make a judgment based on the review category above. The reviewer should hand over the review opinion and the review result to the chief editor. The accepted manuscript must be classified as ‘Accepted without revision’ or ‘Accepted with revision’ from the two reviewers. Then, the chief editor should notify the accepted manuscript, the review opinion, and the review result to the corresponding author. Also, the chief editor must ask about the revised manuscript and responses of the review opinion to the author. The editorial committee should confirm the revised manuscript and its contents and finalize the manuscript acceptance followed by the final review. There is the detail of the review standards under the KSBEC (2012.12.10. Amendment). 


6. Others 

The facts which are not discussed in this document are defined under the internal rules of the editorial committee. If there is any fact that was not defined by the internal rules, it will be decided and abided according to the result of the editorial committee discussion.
